Writing Presentation Decks

Working with clients recently on their presentation decks and reports, I’ve been reminded that one fundamental and simple approach to organization can make your writing clearer and more logical:

This technique is known as PEEL. It’s used in American universities for organizing the information and ideas in an essay or presentation. It’s simple and can also work well in a business writing context.

In fact the structure can be modified to fit your particular industry. For example, here is a variation I’ve developed with a client in the construction industry:

Point (main idea)

Explanation / detail

Actionable / desired action on part of reader (we need this or that, compensation, etc

Use PEEL in documents, reports, summaries, even emails to help clarify and organize your thoughts for the reader!
