American Job Interview Tips

If you’ve finished school or have graduation coming up, you may be involved in the job search or have job interviews on your mind.

You also might be a little unfamiliar with “American” job interview techniques; one thing to always keep in mind is that you should show your understanding of the company and its place in the industry. Do your research. Read their blogs, articles about them online, check their social media, read their LinkedIn blogs, even check stock reports.

Learn as much as you can about their challenges, where they are in the industry, and then relate them to your own experience and abilities.

Show the interviewer how you can help them and be specific – many interviewees use too many generalities! The interviewer will appreciate specific details and if you can use numbers and other metrics of your achievements and then place them within the context of their company’s challenges, even better!

When applying for jobs in the US, make sure to remember it’s not just about your skills and your educational background! Do a little research on the company – find out what their niche is in the industry and what challenges they’re facing!

Present yourself as knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the industry and about their product and service. Show how you’d make a great fit for the way they do things. Ask smart questions about their current challenges. And when you answer their questions, gear your answers to their needs and style.

Your goal is to show the interviewer how you’d be a good fit for their organization. Impress him or her with your knowledge of their company and intelligent questions about their needs and challenges. And take notes!
